You know, whether you refer to it as “surrender”  or “letting it go”, most people realize that they need to “turn over” the rough stuff in order to find some kind of peace or serenity in their life.

There are multiple similar definitions to surrender:

  • to yield to the power, control, or possession of another upon compulsion or demandsurrendered the fort.
  • to give up completely or agree to forgo especially in favor of another
  • to give (oneself) up into the power of another especially as a prisoner
  • to give (oneself) over to something (such as an influence)

but for me the definition is simple. When I surrender, I am giving my stess, anxiety, emotional pain, etc to God. He handles it in ways that I could not even think of. And I don’t handle them well at all. I stress and stress and worry and make crazy plans and just get nuts about stuff like crazy. I am learning not to do that for long these days. I give them to God and He handles them perfectly.

I have learned from personal experience that the sooner and the more easily I surrender things to God, the quicker and more serenity that I have in my life.

Now, I know that it isn’t an easy this to surrender. I have been practicing it for over 12 years and it is still at times a really tought thing to do.

My process is that I decide it is something that I need to surrender; then I say a prayer and ask God that He will help me surrender it (I can pray for it to be easy, but that doesn’t always mean that it is going to be); then I normally talk to a friend to get it out, or it a friend is not available, I may journal about it. This is my process. If I take it back, which sometimes I do, then I go through the process again and again until l finally let it stay gone.

It seems like a lot of work at first, but the more I have practiced this and the more I practice it now, the easier it tends to be.
